Hey there, mates! We are happy to have you here on our blog about creating a cleaner, plastic-free environment in Australia. We are Charlotte and Olivia Smith – two Aussie sisters who want to preserve our lands and waters from pollution. Let us tell you how we do that and – hopefully – engage you in our mission of making Australia’s environment garbage-free and sustainable.
Charlotte: The Adamant Volunteer
My name is Charlotte, and I am the younger of the Smith sisters. I am still in high school, but I already have several major cleaning initiatives across coastal Australia under my belt. I will talk about some of them on the pages of this blog, so stay tuned to learn more about how you can participate, too.
I got involved in preserving the environment through my love for animals. Ever since I was a little kid, I have wanted to become a vet. Once I was old enough to explore my interest in more depth, I started digging deeper into wildlife preservation.
This is how I learned about pollution in Australia and around the world and its precarious effects on the animal kingdom, humankind, and Earth in general. I became especially interested in preserving coastal Australia clean to save the multitude of species living in the water and near it.
I also became particularly enthusiastic about participating in different cleaning initiatives. Fortunately, my high school is highly focused on environmental sustainability, so we have different clubs that engage in various projects around the country. I signed up and started travelling across coastal Australia almost every weekend.
However, I felt that was not enough. I wanted to make a larger impact on my community, so I joined the high school newspaper and became an environmental and ecology reporter. The local radio station noticed me and started inviting me to participate in its sustainability talk shows.
Still, I wanted to make a bigger impact that would further transcend my immediate community. One day, my older sister Olivia suggested we use the power of the Internet to reach out to other communities in Australia. This is how we decided to start this blog. I will now let Olivia tell you more about her role and passion for preserving the environment.
Olivia: The Passionate Aspiring Professional
Hello from me, Olivia! I am a college student majoring in Environmental Studies and Sustainability. I still have a semester until I graduate. However, I have already landed a job with one of the major environment preservation organizations in Australia, and I cannot wait to join the team and start making a professional impact.
Just like my sister Charlotte, I got interested in environmental issues at an early age. I would act as a volunteer in many community-led initiatives to prevent pollution and clean the environment. That is why, once I got into college, my choice of a major was very clear.
I enrolled in the Environmental Studies and Sustainability program at my university and continued with my work as a volunteer. After I completed my first year, I got into an internship program, where I was able to gain real-life professional experience in the field.
Later on, I spent a semester abroad in Europe. It was a very enriching experience that taught me a lot about what other countries do to keep the environment clean. Thanks to it, I came back home with many ideas worth sharing and even managed to complete several projects on my own.
I find this blog the perfect outlet for communicating my experience and knowledge. I am also very glad that my sister Charlotte shares the same passion and was quick to embrace this platform. We promise to make your experience here worthwhile!
